Description

A dual-sided basketweave tip for woven textures and buttercream ribbons

No. 895 is a medium basketweave piping tip in seamless 304 stainless steel. One side of the slit is serrated and the other is smooth, so the same tip pulls a ribbed ribbon when you want texture and a clean flat stripe when you flip it — that single feature is what lets you build a woven basket finish on a cake without swapping nozzles halfway through.

It is drawn as one seamless piece with no welded joint, so there is no seam for icing to catch on, and the tip number is stamped on the body so your next reorder matches this one exactly. Measured at 17 mm across the top exit and 38 mm tall, it is the medium size that suits both 6-inch and 8-inch cakes. Made in our own factory in Yangjiang, Guangdong, and available for wholesale, OEM and private label.

What you can pipe with No. 895

  • Woven basket textures — pipe short horizontal bars in alternating rows, then run a single vertical ribbon down each seam. The smooth edge gives you the clean vertical line, the serrated edge gives you the ribbed horizontals, and the two together read as real wicker from across a room.
  • Buttercream ribbons — hold the slit flat to the cake and drag; the serrated side leaves a fine ribbed ribbon for borders, bows and side bands.
  • Ruffles and flat stripes — turn the smooth side down for crisp flat stripes, or pipe short overlapping ribbons for a ruffle.
  • Chunky knit and rope effects — pipe overlapping woven bars at an angle for a knitted block, a technique that is difficult to fake with a star tip.
  • Royal icing work — basketweave is one of the few cake techniques where royal icing still beats buttercream, and the serrated edge holds its rib in royal icing without bleeding.

How No. 895 compares with other decorative tips

Tip Opening Size class Best for
No. 895 (this listing) Dual-sided slit (serrated + smooth) Medium (M) Woven basket textures, buttercream ribbons, ruffles, flat stripes
No. 853 Deep curved closed star Medium (M) Buttercream swirls, meringue kisses, marshmallows
No. 336 8-cut closed star (large rose) Large (L) Full blooming buttercream roses, multi-petal drop flowers
No. 2D 6-cut inward closed star Large (L) Bold 6-petal drop flowers, flat rose swirls

No. 895 is the one tip in this group that is built for texture rather than volume. If you already pipe swirls with a 10-ray star tip, No. 895 is the natural next addition — it is the tip that makes a cake look hand-woven instead of hand-frosted. See the full seamless 304 nozzle range or the basketweave tips category, and mix any combination in one wholesale order.

Who buys No. 895

Cake studios that sell basketweave and knit-texture celebration cakes; decorators who bill by technique rather than by volume; baking schools and workshops, where basketweave is a standard lesson because it teaches ribbon control; and retail or e-commerce sellers building a per-model tip range, since a basketweave tip is a proven add-on purchase for anyone who already owns star and petal tips.

Quality you can verify

Every batch passes five checks before it ships — incoming material, dimensional, surface finish, salt-spray and pre-shipment inspection. Frequently asked questions

What is a basketweave tip used for?

Basketweave is the piping technique that builds a cake surface out of short horizontal bars alternating with vertical ribbons, so the finish looks like woven wicker. No. 895 is the dual-sided tip that makes it practical: the serrated side pipes the ribbed horizontal, the smooth side pipes the clean vertical seam.

What is the difference between a basketweave tip and a star tip?

A star tip has a closed star or open star orifice that extrudes a ridged rope in every direction, which suits swirls and rosettes. A basketweave tip has a narrow slit, either flat or dual-sided, which extrudes a flat or ribbed ribbon. You cannot pipe a basketweave bar with a star tip, and you cannot pipe a swirl dome with No. 895 — they solve different problems, which is why most decorators keep both.

Can I use No. 895 with royal icing?

Yes. Basketweave is one of the techniques where royal icing is preferable to buttercream, because it sets hard and holds the rib detail. The serrated edge on No. 895 produces a tighter, more defined rib in royal icing than a single-sided flat tip.

Does No. 895 fit a standard coupler and piping bag?

It has a 25 mm base, the standard coupler seat size, and it works with reusable and disposable piping bags. If you are matching it to a large-format coupler, the base diameter is 25 mm (0.98 in) so you can check the seat against your own hardware.

Is No. 895 dishwasher safe?

Yes. Because it is drawn as one seamless piece rather than assembled from welded parts, there is no joint where icing can harden, and it can go straight into the dishwasher. A soak and a rinse under the tap is usually enough for everyday use.

What is the minimum order for No. 895?

12 pcs per SKU for the standard tip, and from 500 pcs if you want your own logo, tip number or retail packaging. Tier pricing is quoted per order and we reply within 24 hours.
